Marte graduated in 2002 from the Utrecht School of the Arts. She also studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Antwerp and the Academy of Visual Arts Maastricht. Since graduating, Marte has been working as an independent visual artist and has her own painting and drawing studio. Marte regularly exhibits in various galleries and museums.

From soft pastels to bursts of color. In this watercolor course you will discover the typical painting and brush techniques of watercolor. You will paint from still life, landscape, portrait and animals. The aim of this course is to learn the technical skills of watercolor technique and the use of your own visual language. You learn to deal with color, composition, contrast, line and space. At the end of the lesson there is an educational work discussion. There is a program for beginners and advanced students.

Practical: The basic materials for oil paint and small panels to paint on are available during the lesson.

Painting with oil paint is a very old and versatile technique. You can use it to paint very refined in multiple layers, but also directly and expressively. In the course you will receive an explanation about the different types of oil paint, brushes and surfaces (such as painting on linen or panel).

We start with painting using the refined oil painting technique and end with the expressive technique. We work based on still lifes, landscape and portrait. You can also paint according to your own themes and subjects. During the lessons, various artists from history who painted with oil paint are discussed. The course is suitable for beginners or experienced painters who want to brush up on their technique.

Practical: Simple drawing paper and materials are available in class.

Drawing is the basis of visual work. We draw with charcoal, (colored) pencil, chalk and the combination with watercolor paint. You will learn different drawing techniques in six lessons. Working 'layer over layer', drawing with hatching and structures, paper types and combination techniques.

We will work with different types of themes such as still life, landscape and portrait.

The course is suitable for beginners or artists with some experience who want to brush up on their drawing technique and style.
