Rolph Gobits is a Dutch-born, part London-based photographer best known for his portrait, lifestyle and landscape photography.

Born in The Hague, he grew up in Amsterdam. In 1967 he went to England to study photography at the Royal College of Art in London and went on to shoot for magazines and campaigns for BIBA department store, Benson & Hedges and the Daily Mail. In the decades since, Gobits has received orders from clients around the world, including Mercedes-Benz, American Express, IBM, the Ritz-Carlton, Hewlett-Packard, Gucci and Sotheby's.

Gobits has exhibited his work widely and his photographs are in numerous private collections.

Course "Masterclass"

(Level: Advanced)

Photography is about using your imagination, it's about creating ideas that appeal to people and generate interest from the viewer's point of view. One of the most important things a photographer must learn is to only include elements that enhance the composition of the photo. There are never any distracting or unwanted elements in the photo. This point cannot be stressed enough. Knowing what to leave out in your photo is just as important as knowing what to leave in your photo

The different topics covered in the lectures:

Introduction to famous photographers covering every area of photography – composition – camera – settings – movement – depth of field – light – street photography – portrait – studio lighting – voiding – products – still life – color temperature – fashion – architecture – advertising – landscape – editing – animals – interior – night photography.

At the end of each lecture I hand out a project to everyone to complete within 2 weeks before the next lecture. During the next lecture, each student submits his/her image(s) and we discuss the project together

The daylight studio lessons take place in the Jeroen Willems classroom.
